Skills to Succeed as a CIO in the New
Rick Webb, North America Industry Lead, CIO in the New, Public Service, Accenture
In today’s technology world and state government, CIOs really need to be a jack of all trades and master of them all.
Lead. Communicate. Collaborate.
Having technology skills – it’s a given. But they have to be a really rounded individual to be a leader. To be a communicator. To be a strategist. To be a person that brings people together collaboratively and have them work across the IT enterprise.
Bring people together
You’ve got to be able to bring stakeholders together, business leaders, IT professionals – all working together for that common goal.
Stay relentlessly focused on the outcomes that matter
We must remember: This is not about the IT. This is not about the IT organization. This is about – How do we improve the services and the outcomes for our citizens? And in the end, that’s really all that matters – is better outcomes and a better life for our people.
