As our Child Services team pursued an idea for what would become the Accenture Virtual Experience Solution (AVEnueS), we encountered plenty of bumps and barriers. Isn’t that always the case with doing something new and innovative? No one had designed virtual reality for Child Services the way we wanted to design it. In fact, several technologists initially told us that our vision to combine human characters, a 360-degree video experience with interactive Q&A simply couldn’t be done. Nevertheless, we persisted and assembled the right team to figure out that even though it hadn’t been done HOW it could be done.
It all started with asking the following question. How might we propel our vision and passion of improving outcomes for children and families by using virtual reality? The wording of the question is significant. AVEnueS is not about the technology. AVEnueS is about the outcomes and learning model powered by innovative technology. Through all the obstacles, we never lost sight of that. What resulted is a solution designed to radically improve the way Child Services caseworkers gain the knowledge and judgment so crucial in the field.
Although we never set out for external accolades, we are proud to have just won “Best Mobile VR or AR application” at the GSMA GLOMO Awards 2019, and we’re honored that AVEnueS, has been selected as a South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Interactive Innovations Awards Finalist (VR, AR & MR). Together with some of my Child Services colleagues, I’ll be making my first trip to the renowned SXSW Conference & Festivals—famous for bringing together the interactive, film and music industries. I’m energized to know that we’re at the forefront of applying unconventional creativity to the incredibly important work of Child Services. And, of course, I can’t wait to see what else we will discover and what other ideas will spark through our experiences in Austin.
Regardless of how AVEnueS fares in the awards competition, we know we have a winner for our clients and most important for those they serve. If you haven’t already, take a few moments to explore what AVEnueS is and how it works.
At the end of the day, what matters isn’t what kind of technology we use. What matters is the difference we help make in the lives of children and their families. That’s innovation with purpose. And our initial focus on caseworker training is only the beginning. Join us as we continue the journey; after all, the potential avenues are endless.
